How to optimize the use of the Watchout system

altChile. It is increasingly common to see the use of mapping in Latin America for launches or presentations. Therefore, Omar Saldías, from the company RLA, a pioneer in the use of the Watchout system in the region, shares some of the tips to optimize its use.

A novelty in Watchout 5.0 is the possibility of displaying material in 3D, with 2D files, thanks to the fact that it works in a 3D environment. His Stage now works with two axes in space (before he did it with two).

It also allows you to generate Chroma Key (or color cropping) that is highly demanded in the audiovisual world. So you can change the background of a track dynamically through video, animation, different backgrounds.

You can create masks, such as ovals, that mask live video inputs or digital files outside the classic rectangular format of screens.

Today you can create a dynamic server and through it display content on the screen such as RSS feeds, Twitter reviews, facebook, and other social networks.

To speed up the work:

  • The new version of Watchout allows you to open an adjustment window to more accurately adjust colors, speed, smoothness of key frame interpolation, producing smoother movements. This is achieved by double-clicking on the Key Frame of the track.

  • From the Media window you can drag a file and replace a track directly in the Timeline, without having to delete or readapt any previously made adjustments. For example, brightness, movement, or tweens. Everything stays the same.

  • Also, in this same Media window you can directly replace a file by double-clicking on it and changing its path to the file to be replaced.

  • This version of Watchout allows you to copy Tweens. If I already have a track with effects, multiple adjustments and I want to apply it to another composition, I can copy these effects and apply them to other tracks while keeping the adjustments already made. That is, I can recycle adjustments by speeding up time. This allows you to create a library of effects to be reused.

  • When animating an object, for example a car, you can animate the wheels on one side, the doors on the other, etc. Watchout has an option that allows you to join all these animations in a single composition, without losing the independent animations of the interior. This is achieved using multiple Timelines joined or nested in a single composition.

  • There is the possibility of mixing the different layers to enhance the graph. The mixing of tracks through different pixel multiplication modes is called "Blending Modes". (Pixel multiplication method).
